  • Shame on Indian Government for IPL

    Navjot Singh |  May 26, 2009 |  No Comments

Well, now the IPL is over, Indian government should feel ashamed. I am not much interested in watching or keeping IPL Updates. But after watching the closing ceremony of IPL 2 yesterday, I felt that Indian government should feel guilty of not being able to hold IPL in their own country.

If India had a near perfect excuse of ongoing elections for not holding IPL here, then South Africa also was having its elections at the same time. But never during the matches it felt, that there was a lack of preparation on part of SA for the IPL matches. Infact the stadiums remained crowded, security near perfect and an enthusiastic audience. And in between, TOI carried a photo of people voting in SA where the queue shown had almost 4-5 loops and stretched upto a distance of what looked like a more than a kilometre.

And then there is India where Indians have hardly any interest in politics or voting despite so many voting campaigns. Despite the fact that Cricket is worshipped next to God in India. Despite the fact that holding elections and IPL at the same time would have improved the reputation of India a lot especially in the current scenario when our nearest neighbour Pakistan is the most dreaded destination for playing Cricket and for the upcoming Cricket world cup which was being held by India – Pakistan jointly. Pakistan is now out of the race for it but by not holding the IPL here, Indian government showed their lack of confidence in our own armed forces and put up a shameful face of shifting the IPL venue in front of the world and especially ICC.

Well, finally Indian goverment should take few lessons from SA Government and their management.

  • Woah, I am a entrepreneur now!

    Navjot Singh |  May 26, 2009 |  No Comments

I have finally launched Slite Web Media. Its a company name that I decided to have for my network of websites. Currently the company has only 1 employee – and that’s me. And regarding the operations of the company – it is just a network of some unrelated websites.

Well I have not decided much about any operation or business sort of thing for this company. But this was a name which I had always in my mind from my childhood. I always wanted to own a company named Slite and so I grabbed this opportunity of getting a domain name related to it and launched a website around it. I also got 500 business cards made of it but alas, I am shifting house so all those cards are now waste with old address on them.

Well, I have still not gotten over the feeling of being a online entrepreneur. I will soon decide further on the progress of Slite Web Media. Till then good luck to me! :D

  • Happy Lohri

    Navjot Singh |  January 13, 2009 |  No Comments

Today is Lohri, the best festival to occur in winters. Why? Because we light up bonfire, get the warmth around it and eat lots of things which we hardly find time to eat on normal days. I wonder why does the government does not declare holiday on the 13th Jan. Here is the song which is synonymous with Lohri:

    Sunder mundriye ho!
    Tera kaun vicaharaa ho!
    Dullah bhatti walla ho!
    Dullhe di dhee vyayae ho!
    Ser shakkar payee ho!
    Kudi da laal pathaka ho!
    Kudi da saalu paatta ho!
    Salu kaun samete!
    Chache choori kutti! zamidara lutti!
    Zamindaar sudhaye!
    bade bhole aaye!
    Ek bhola reh gaya!
    Sipahee pakad ke lai gaya!
    Sipahee ne mari eet!
Sanoo de de lohri te teri jeeve jodi! (Cry or howl!)
    Paheenve ro te phannve pit!

And here is the translation if anyone needs it:

    Who do you have
    The groom with the tandoor
    The groom’s daughter got married
    He gave 1 kg sugar!
The girl is wearing a red suit!
    But her shawl is torn!
    Who will stitch her shawl?!
    The uncle made choori!
    The landlords ate it!
He made the landlords eat a lot!
    Lots of innocent guys came
One innocent boy got left behind
    The police arrested him!
The policeman hit him with a brick!
    Cry or howl!
Give us lohri ..long live your couple!
Whether you cry, or bang your head later!

For Punjabis, Lohri is more than just a festival, and also an example of a way of life. The essence of Lohri is celebration of fertility and the spark of life. An extremely auspicious day, Lohri marks the sun’s entry in to the ‘Makar Rashi’ (northern hemisphere). The period, beginning from 14 January lasting till 14 July, is known as Uttarayan. It is also the last day of the month of Maargazhi, the ninth month of the lunar calendar.
